Massive flooding in Queensland, Queensland Premier declares State of Emergency

Queensland: Massive flooding have hit regional areas of Queensland over the weekend after a massive downpour of rain, the State Emergency Service and the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service have mobilized in response to the flooding providing emergency shelter, food, water and clothing.

Harold Wilson a lifelong resident of Townsville spoke to ABC reporter Jonathon Mitchem and described the scene as similar to a bomb exploding and leaving devastation, Mr Wilson had this to say: "We have always been immune to flooding and rain up this end but nothing like this, this is like a bomb exploded and left everything in ruin but us Queenslanders are a fierce and strong mob that will rebuild and stand strong together".

Queensland Premier Anna Bligh spoke to media earlier today where she declared a State of Emergency for Queensland and the areas hit heavy by the flooding, Premier Bligh also reaffirmed the state's commitment to Queenslanders and the repairing of infrastructure for the region.

● Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has called an emergency meeting of cabinet, the nature of the summons is unknown at this time however we will keep you updated as we recieve information.

Breaking News within the Rudd Government after Treasurer Wayne Swan resigns from cabinet

Canberra: Treasurer Wayne Swan has resigned from cabinet today after a disagreement with the Prime Minister over the proposal of the new border security policy, it is believed Mr Swan was a staunch opponet of the policy amongst a band of three other Labor MP's, the Prime Minister has not commented on the matter however this is not the first time cabinet has been divided on an issue.

Mr Swan addressed media outside Parliament House in Canberra where he made these remarks "The Prime Minister has shown that he cannot deliver the appropriate measures to protect our border, our national security or our interests, I have decided to resign as Treasurer in protest of the border security proposal"

It is unknown whether Mr Swan intends to challenge the Prime Minister in a Leadership contest however that will only divide a party as well as a cabinet.

Malcolm Turnbull, Leader of the Liberal Party and Liberal/National Coalition steps down

Canberra: Malcolm Turnbull the Leader of the Liberal Party and National/Liberal Coalition has stood down today due to medical reasons concerning his health, Mr Turnbull however did not specify what his medical condition is however it is believed he has released such information to the Liberal and National caucuses.

Mr Turnbull has served his constituents of Wentworth since 2004, the announcement has come as a shock to many in the Liberal party and National party but mostly to the people he served.

A spokesperson for Mr Turnbull announced he will resign from political life to allow him to spend more time with his family, his resignation will cause a by-election to be held in the seat of Wentworth.

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd resigns amid pressures from the Labor Party and cabinetuser posted image

Canberra: The Prime Minister has resigned today amid pressures from key members of the Labor Party and his very own cabinet, it is rumored he was told to resign after Treasurer Wayne Swan resigned and reportedly threatened to call a vote of no confidence in the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister was surrounded by his wife Theresa and his children whilst addressing media in Canberra, the Prime Minister made the remarks that he "was not elected by the Labor Party to do a job but by the Australian people" He thanked the Australian people for allowing him to serve as their Prime Minister and most of all allowing him the opportunity to effect change for them.

The Deputy Leader of the Labor Party and the Deputy Prime Minister Julia Gillard has assumed the role of Acting Prime Minister until the Labor Party elect a new Leader and subsequently a new Prime Minister.

A man has been arrested by the Victorian Police in Melbourne today after throwing his three year old daughter off the West Gate Bridge

Melbourne: A man has been arrested by Victorian Police today after he threw his three year old daughter off the West Gate Bridge, the man is believed to be in his mid 30s and is reported to have a history of mental health issues.

The Victorian Police refused to comment on the matter however will make a comment once the investigation is complete, the man has been refused bail and is expected back at court in April this year for sentencing.
